Hi everyone,

Mahalo Mondays is a newsletter on the most interesting I’ve learned or found over that week. It’ll range from articles, tips, videos, hacks, and other fascinating things that would broaden your perspective.

Mahalo means many things in Hawaiian (expressing gratitude), but for me, it’s a way to show appreciation and love to those that I’ve learned from. So I want to showcase their work and share it with all of you.

Cool thing I learned this week:

The act of making a decision that eliminates a hundred other unnecessary decisions. I first heard of this from Tim Ferriss. I added the unnecessary part because I don’t want to waste time spending it on those areas, and more on areas that do matter. I also didn’t want to eliminate possible decisions that could make an impact as well. I’d recommend doing some second-order thinking to make sure you don’t eliminate good decisions.

Examples: Teaching parents do how to do online banking so they don’t rely on you every single time. Have a conversation with your partner on how to communicate better to avoid unnecessary conflicts. It can be as easy as cleaning every week so dust doesn’t accumulate. Even if you miss a week, the clean-up is only for two weeks (just don’t miss two in a row).

It turns out that we’ve been using this term wrong all along. The interpretation has been skewed to a negative connotation instead of an understanding of human capability and a way to avoid such circumstances.

Here’s the full quote that’s often cut out:

“It is much safer to be feared than loved If you cannot be both it is better to be feared than loved but avoid being hated at all costs”

Firebird Orchestra:

I got the chance to listen to Stravinsky: The Firebird through a fantastic symphony and was excited to see the different elements of blending instruments and how Stravinsky put all of this together is mind-blowing at such a young age.

I was fortunate to have a conductor break it down so we could see the significance of each process.

The piece itself isn’t very long but each minute is filled with timeless melodies.

Until next week,

Scott Nguyen
